Pole barn construction gives you a lot of covered space for the money. A post-frame building carries its load on treated posts instead of a poured foundation wall. That means less work under the ground and a shell that goes up quickly. We build them for homeowners, farms and businesses across the Great Lakes Bay Region.
Most people call us when the garage is full and the equipment sits outside all winter. We handle the build from the first site visit to the last door. Our skid steer sets the posts, and the trusses and steel follow. If an old shed or barn stands where the new one goes, our demolition crew takes it down first.

A post-frame building starts with post holes instead of a foundation wall. We set treated posts on a concrete footing pad in the bottom of each hole. The posts carry the roof and the walls, so the inside stays open. That is why a pole building can hold a clear span of 40 feet or more.
Trusses sit on top of the posts and set the roof pitch. Purlins run across the trusses and carry the steel roof panels. Girts run sideways across the posts and carry the wall steel. Those panels also stiffen the whole frame against wind.
From there we build it the way you want it. Overhead doors, walk doors and windows get framed into the wall lines. You can leave the inside open, or add insulation and a liner for a heated shop. A concrete slab is poured by a concrete contractor, and we line that up as part of the job.
The Michigan Residential Code calls for exterior footings and foundations to reach 42 inches below grade. Frost gets that deep here, and anything shallower can heave over one winter. Our posts go below that line, or sit on piers carried to the same depth.
Bay County sits on flat lake plain with heavy clay and a high water table. Water sits on clay instead of soaking in, and a low spot turns into a pond. We rough grade the site and build the pad up so the floor sits above the ground around it, the same excavation and site prep we do for homes and garages. If brush and small trees cover the spot, our land clearing service opens it up first.
Snow load matters most on a wide roof. Michigan sets a ground snow load county by county, and ours run 30 to 40 pounds per square foot. Trusses get ordered to the snow and wind load for your site. Wind coming off Saginaw Bay is the other load the frame has to carry.
A 24 by 32 covers two vehicles and a workbench. A 30 by 40 is one of the most common sizes built, and it leaves room for a shop bay. A 40 by 60 holds equipment and trailers with room to work around them. Inside the Bay City limits, zoning usually keeps the bigger sizes out on township and county land.
